Luang Phor Sodh Candasaro (born Buddhist Era 2427, or 1884 CE) was born in Suphanburi Province, Thailand, to a wealthy family engaged in rice trading. From childhood, he studied Buddhist dharma under his uncle in temple monasteries, displaying extraordinary intelligence with total recall of scriptures. At age 14, his father passed away and he assumed family responsibilities. Yet he was haunted by a thought: 'People labor desperately, yet cannot escape death; when death comes, all things become illusions.' At age 19, he renounced his family business, took monastic vows, and devoted himself entirely to spiritual practice. After ordination, Luang Phor Sodh practiced intensive meditation at eight Bangkok temples over ten years. In Buddhist Era 2459 (1916 CE), he was appointed abbot of Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen. The temple was nearly abandoned with few monks when he took charge. Through his singular dedication, he rebuilt Wat Paknam into a major monastery housing hundreds of monks, and established both a Buddhist academy and secular school, benefiting the entire region. Luang Phor Sodh's greatest achievement was founding Dhammakāya Meditation—through intensely focused practice reaching the 'Dhammakāya' realm, enabling knowledge of past and future, healing the sick, and spiritual communication. Devotees tell of his many verified prophecies, his fame spreading throughout Thailand. In Buddhist Era 2493 (1950 CE), he personally oversaw casting the first 84,000 White Olive amulets, symbolizing Buddha's 84,000 dharma teachings, as gift amulets for supporters of the Buddhist Academy construction. These amulets later became Thailand's premier wealth-attraction sacred objects, invaluable in worth. Self-image amulets bear the master's own dharma likeness, imbued with his spiritual essence, treasured by connoisseurs and serious collectors as rare sacred objects. Luang Phor Sodh passed into Nirvana in Buddhist Era 2502 (1959 CE) at age 74. The Thai Royal Family posthumously honored him as 'Phramongkolthepmuni,' ranking him among Thailand's Nine Great Revered Monks. His status remains exalted and his veneration eternal.
