About Wat Sothon
Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan (วัดโสธรวรารามวรวิหาร) sits on the banks of the Bang Pakong River in Chachoengsao Province, Thailand, and is one of Central Thailand's most famous royal temples and pilgrimage sites. Founded in the late Ayutthaya period and originally named "Wat Hong," it became renowned for enshrining the sacred Buddha image Luang Pho Phuttha Sothon.
The Revered Buddha of Chachoengsao
The Luang Pho Sothon image enshrined in the main hall is one of Thailand's most venerated Buddha images — about 1.48 meters tall with a lap width of about 1.65 meters. Devotees regard it as highly efficacious for good harvests, warding off misfortune and illness, and success in work. It draws millions of pilgrims from Thailand and abroad each year, especially those seeking wealth, health, and safety.
A Grand Marble Sanctuary
The temple's modern main hall, built of Italian grey-white marble, is a majestic landmark of Chachoengsao. Sacred objects and amulets consecrated by the temple's monastic community carry the deep devotional heritage of this celebrated royal temple, and are treasured by devotees in Thailand and among overseas Chinese communities.
