Biography
Luang Phor Noi (หลวงพ่อน้อย นาวารัตน์) was born on February 14, 1892 in Laos and passed away on December 10, 1946 at the age of 53. He is historically recognized as the first monk to consecrate Phra Rahu (the Rahu deity) amulets in Thailand, earning him the title of founding patriarch of the Thai Phra Rahu tradition.
Spiritual Training
From a young age, Luang Phor Noi studied ancient Lao magical arts (Wicha) under his father, developing deep expertise in palm-leaf manuscript incantations and sacred rituals. At the age of 21, he was ordained as a bhikkhu (Buddhist monk) at Wat Glarng KooWieng. Beyond his mastery of sacred arts, Luang Phor Noi was also an accomplished practitioner of Vipassana meditation, achieving exceptional attainment in both meditative concentration and spiritual powers — a rare combination of wisdom and supernatural ability.
Founding the Phra Rahu Tradition
Luang Phor Noi brought the Lao tradition of Phra Rahu statue-making and consecration rituals to Thailand, establishing the first-ever Phra Rahu amulet consecration ceremony at Wat Sisa Thong. He employed ancient Lao Bailan Akarakom texts to bless Rahu amulets and statues, transforming Wat Sisa Thong into the birthplace of Phra Rahu worship in Thailand. Under his leadership, the temple grew from an ordinary village monastery into a nationally renowned Rahu pilgrimage site.
Amulets and Sacred Objects
The Phra Rahu Om Chan (Rahu Swallowing the Moon) amulets personally consecrated by Luang Phor Noi are considered milestone pieces in the history of Thai Buddhist amulets. These amulets are celebrated for their efficacy in warding off misfortune, neutralizing adversaries, and attracting wealth and good fortune — making them the most sought-after items among Rahu tradition collectors. Vintage amulets from his era are extremely rare and command exceptional collector value.
Powers attributed to Luang Phor Noi's Rahu amulets include:
- Protection from danger and reversal of bad luck
- Removal of backstabbers and prevention of slander
- Attraction of wealth, good fortune, and benefactors
- Defense against black magic and evil spirits
Historical Legacy
Although Luang Phor Noi passed away at a relatively young age, the Rahu tradition he established endures to this day. Every successive abbot of Wat Sisa Thong has continued his Phra Rahu consecration rituals. Luang Phor Noi is universally acknowledged in Thai Buddhist circles as the founding master of the Rahu tradition, and his pioneering contribution to Thai Buddhist sacred object culture remains unparalleled. Each year, countless devotees visit Wat Sisa Thong to pay homage to his legacy and honor the master who brought Phra Rahu worship to prominence.
