What is the Luang Phor Khun B.E. 2520 Village Scouts medal (Rian Luang Phor Khun Run Luk Suea Chao Ban)?
Luang Phor Khun Parisuttho (หลวงพ่อคูณ ปริสุทฺโธ, B.E. 2466 to 2558) of Wat Ban Rai (วัดบ้านไร่), Nakhon Ratchasima, was one of the most loved Thai monks of the twentieth century, known nationwide for amulets of wealth and protection. His portrait amulets were issued in many batches, and the early copper medals are especially valued by collectors.
"ลูกเสือชาวบ้าน" means Village Scouts, a rural scouting movement that spread across Thailand in the 1970s. This commemorative medal was issued by Wat Sa Kaeo (วัดสระแก้ว) in Nakhon Ratchasima: the back carries the scout emblem and an inscription commemorating the building of the temple's monks' quarters, while the front shows Luang Phor Khun with the name of his own temple, Wat Ban Rai. The date on the back, "๑๒ ส.ค. ๒๐", is 12 August B.E. 2520.

Who was Luang Phor Khun?
Luang Phor Khun was born in B.E. 2466 (1923) and passed away in B.E. 2558 (2015), spending his monastic life at Wat Ban Rai in Nakhon Ratchasima. Plain-spoken and approachable, he was famous for blessing devotees by tapping them on the head, and he gave much of the money offered to him to build schools, hospitals and temples, earning enormous respect across Thailand's northeast. His amulets are best known for wealth and protection, and early copper medals from the B.E. 2510s and 2520s are becoming harder to find.

Craftsmanship
An oval copper medal with its original loop. On the front, Luang Phor Khun's half-length portrait is crisply struck, with clear facial lines and robe folds, a flame motif on each side, "หลวงพ่อคูณ ปริสุทฺโธ" above and "วัดบ้านไร่ ด่านขุนทด นครราชสีมา" curving below. The back centres on the scout emblem: a fleur-de-lis with a tiger's head and two stars, above a ribbon bearing the scout motto "เสียชีพอย่าเสียสัตย์" (better to lose your life than your honour). Around it run "อนุสรณ์ร่วมสร้างกุฏิวัดสระแก้ว", rice-ear borders, "๑๒ ส.ค. ๒๐" and "ศิษย์หลวงพ่อคูณ". The whole medal has the deep brown patina of naturally aged copper.
FAQ
Q: How do I know it is the B.E. 2520 Village Scouts batch?
A: The Thai Buddha Image Admiration Association formal certificate reads "เหรียญหลวงพ่อคูณ รุ่นลูกเสือชาวบ้าน เนื้อทองแดง พ.ศ. 2520": Luang Phor Khun Village Scouts medal, copper, B.E. 2520, temple "วัดสระแก้ว", province "นครราชสีมา", No. CO06984, verifiable through the QR code.
Q: The front names Wat Ban Rai, so why is the issuing temple Wat Sa Kaeo?
A: The front carries the name of Luang Phor Khun's own temple, Wat Ban Rai, while this batch was a commemorative issue for building monks' quarters at Wat Sa Kaeo, as the back inscription "อนุสรณ์ร่วมสร้างกุฏิวัดสระแก้ว" states. The association registers it under the issuing temple, Wat Sa Kaeo.
Q: Can I wear a copper medal every day?
A: Yes. It is not cased, so we suggest a waterproof case to protect the patina. Do not clean it with chemicals, as that would strip the original aged surface.
Q: Who is it suited to?
A: People in business or seeking better finances, frequent travellers, and collectors of Luang Phor Khun's early copper medals.
Q: Why do I request first and pay later?
A: This piece is held by a partner supplier rather than in our Bangkok stock. So that nobody pays for a piece that has already gone, we confirm with the supplier first and reply by email within 24 hours. If it is available, the email includes a payment link valid for 24 hours. Submitting a request costs nothing.
