About Wat Rakhang
Wat Rakhang Khositaram (วัดระฆังโฆสิตาราม) sits on the west (Thonburi) bank of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok Noi, Bangkok. A royal monastery founded in the Ayutthaya period, it is the birthplace of the "Phra Somdej," the king of Thai amulets. Its name means "Temple of the Bell," after an ancient bell unearthed there.
Birthplace of the Somdej Amulet
Wat Rakhang became world-famous through its great master Somdej Phra Buddhacharn Toh Phrommarangsi (สมเด็จโต พรหมรังสี). Here he created Thailand's most celebrated "Somdej Wat Rakhang" amulet, revered as the foremost of the "Benjapakee" (the five most sacred amulets) and a supreme symbol of Thai amulet devotion and collecting.
A Royal Temple and Pilgrimage Site
As an important royal monastery in Bangkok, Wat Rakhang draws steady streams of devotees who come to pay respect to Somdej Toh and pray for wisdom, wealth, and protection. Objects blessed at Wat Rakhang carry the profound heritage of the Somdej lineage.
