Luang Phor Pae (หลวงพ่อแพ, B.E. 2448–2542), abbot of Wat Pikulthong in Singburi Province, revered as the "Modern Somdej King." This Phra Somdej Pim Than Singh was personally consecrated by him in B.E. 2515 (1972) and is now extremely scarce. 1. The life of Luang Phor Pae Born as "Pae Jaimankhong" in Singburi Province in B.E. 2448 (1905), he began studying Buddhist scriptures at age 11 and was ordained at Wat Pikulthong at 16. He passed his Pali examinations at 19 and earned a master's-level degree in Buddhist studies at 21. At just 26, he was appointed abbot of Wat Pikulthong — a position he held for over 60 years. In B.E. 2525 he was named Singburi's foremost monk. He passed away on 10 February B.E. 2542 (1999) at age 94, after 73+ years in the monkhood. 2. The Somdej tradition Phra Somdej is the highest-ranked of Thailand's five great ancient Buddha amulets, first created by the royal preceptor Somdej Phra Phutthachan To during the reign of King Rama IV. LP Pae devoted his life to creating Somdej amulets, each batch consecrated with the powerful Jinabanchon incantation — earning him the title "Modern Somdej King." 3. The consecration story of this piece In B.E. 2515, LP Pae represented Thailand at a Buddhist conference in Sri Lanka and made a pilgrimage to the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree in Anuradhapura. Upon returning, he blended sacred soil and water from those holy sites with 108 types of flower pollen and ancient Pali scripture leaf powder to create the "Than Singh" (lion throne) Somdej series. The amulets were blessed continuously throughout the entire Buddhist Lent (approximately three months) and received their grand consecration ceremony on Saturday, 21 October B.E. 2515. 4. Why this is rare • LP Pae passed away over 27 years ago — all his amulets are finite and diminishing • The B.E. 2515 Than Singh is one of his most iconic sacred powder batches • The Than Singh mold is the highest tier among five molds, with the smallest production run • Counterfeits are rampant — certified genuine pieces are especially scarce • A regular competition category in Thai amulet contests, confirming market recognition 5.
