About the Temple
Wat Lahan Rai (วัดละหารไร่) is located in Ban Khai District, Rayong Province, approximately 180 kilometers southeast of Bangkok. It stands as one of Eastern Thailand's most prestigious Buddhist temples, renowned worldwide as the home of the legendary monk Luang Phor Tim (หลวงพ่อทิม). The temple is celebrated as the "Khun Paen Holy Land" and the spiritual epicenter of Thailand's Metta Mahaniyom (loving-kindness magic) tradition.
Historical Background
Founded during the late Ayutthaya Kingdom period, Wat Lahan Rai boasts centuries of history. Luang Phor Tim was ordained here in BE 2475 and remained for over forty years, transforming it into a cornerstone of Thai amulet culture. He established a comprehensive consecration system at the temple, and his Metta tradition continues to be practiced to this day.
Temple Features
Nestled in the tranquil Rayong countryside, the temple grounds are shaded by towering ancient trees. The centerpiece is the Luang Phor Tim Memorial Hall, which enshrines his golden wax statue and displays the original molds of his most celebrated amulets. The temple continues to hold regular consecration ceremonies led by monks who carry forward Luang Phor Tim's spiritual lineage.
Amulet Heritage Center
Wat Lahan Rai is most famous for its Phra Khun Paen and Phra Pidta amulets. Amulets personally consecrated by Luang Phor Tim hold elite status in the Thai amulet market, with the Khun Paen series from BE 2515-2518 ranking among the most coveted collectibles worldwide. The temple's amulet distribution center is open daily, offering a selection of contemporary amulets blessed by current resident monks.
